'청자'가 때로는 낯설고 먼 이름처럼 들릴 때가 있습니다. 저는 그 거리를 조금씩 좁혀, 오늘의 생활에 자연스럽게 스며드는 청자를 생각합니다. 전통의 숨결은 그대로 두되, 지금의 쓰임을 더해 청자의 현재와 미래로 이어가겠습니다.

Sometimes “cheongja” feels like a distant, unfamiliar name. I want to close that distance and imagine celadon that can live quietly in our daily lives. Keeping the breath of tradition, but giving it a place in the present — that’s how I hope to carry celadon into today and into what comes next.

‘고려청자의 대중화’라는 한 줄을 마음에 두고 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. 예부터 전해 내려오는 청자는 유려한 곡선과 비색 하나만으로도 충분히 아름다웠습니다. 그 본연의 아름다움을 오늘의 생활 속에서도 자연스럽게 마주할 수 있으면 좋겠다고 생각했습니다.

그래서 형태는 최대한 단순하게, 선은 흐트러지지 않게 두고, 빛깔이 가장 잘 드러나도록 풍만한 볼륨을 남겨둡니다. 인위적으로 장식을 더하기보다, 비색이 그릇 위에서 조용히 번지며 스스로 말을 걸 수 있게 하는 것. 그것이 제가 청자를 빚을 때 가장 집중하는 지점입니다.

I’ve been working with one idea in mind: to bring Goryeo celadon a little closer to everyday life. Traditional celadon has long been admired for its flowing curves and quiet bluish-green glow, and I wanted that original beauty to be something we can still live with now — not only look at.

So I keep the forms restrained, the lines calm, and leave enough fullness in the body for the color to breathe. Rather than adding decoration, I let the celadon hue spread softly over the piece and speak on its own. That is the point I return to each time I make a vessel.

2021년 강원도 영월로 집과 작업실을 옮기고 부부가 함께 스튜디오를 운영하면서 브랜드는 전환기를 맞이했다. 산과 물, 파란 하늘과 배추밭까지 청색의 집합소인 이곳은 정형화될 수 없는 자연의 다채로운 색감과 유기적인 형태에서 디자인의 영감을 얻는 이들에게 상당한 의미를 갖는다. 하루하루 피고 지는 꽃잎을 보며 컵의 형태가 꽃봉오리를 닮게 되었고, 곡선 표현에 큰 영향을 주었다.

In 2021, we moved our home and workshop to Yeongwol in Gangwon-do, and as my husband and I began running the studio together, the brand entered a new chapter. Surrounded by mountains, water, blue skies, and even cabbage fields, this place is a kind of gathering point for blues — and it holds real meaning for us, who find inspiration in the unrepeatable colors and organic forms of nature. Watching flowers bloom and fade each day, the cups began to take on the shape of flower buds, and that daily view started to shape the way we work with curves.
